Painting of Sunflowers April 23rd, 2014

I have wanted to paint this for sometime now. I am a BIG lover of Sunflowers, as many other fans are as well.

I recently purchased two video lessons by Peggy Kroll Roberts. If you are interested in finding out about these video’s please let me know.

I am working on value studies (black and white) of compositions before I go into the color version. Something that I preach in the Design Classroom, but I am not in the practice of doing this for my painting.

Hopefully this will help with more successful work down the road. I think it could be a very valuable tool, if I can hunker down and spend more time in the planning stage.

NYC Apartment Dwellers April 9th, 2014

While apartment hunting in NYC with my daughter, we came across these two guys. Of course I was more interested in them than the apartment. As it turned out my daughter did rent their place: )

Hippies Hound Dogs April 2nd, 2014

I met these two characters while traveling. Their owner was a very unique looking individual and was happy to do a photo shoot with his companions. To tell you the truth, I’m not sure who was more interesting the owner or the pooches!

Starbucks Freedom Rider III November 11th, 2013

When A Phone Call Changes Your Life!

It’s been four months since the devastating news that my ex-husband, my children’s father had suddenly died. I have been very fortunate in my life and could say the I had never lost a close friend or anyone in my immediate family. Even though I was divorced I was married to Matthew for a very long time. This loss hit me very hard.

My girls are in the young twenties, so I have had to help them take care of his estate. At times it definitely has felt like a comedy with the things I have had to endure.

So it has taken me away from my Art Making and my energy was been a bit depleted. I am starting to feel a bit better and I am hoping to get my MO-JO back.

This painting is the larger version of my Starbucks Freedom Rider, it measure 24 in. × 24 in. I am not quite sure if I’m done with it, your comments are welcome. This is the first of many larger Freedom Riders, I am working on for a show at Palm Beach State College. I’m on the look out for photos of dogs hanging out in cars, boats, riding on motorcycles or whatever you see please snap a shot and send it by.

Central Park Babes II September 27th, 2013

I have been having the urge to experiment a little bit lately which is a good thing! I took the painting I did over the weekend and manipulated it on Photoshop with the filter paint daubs. It flattened out the image and made it much more graphic.
Then I traced and painted it. Very similar to paint by numbers (kids painting technique). Anyhow this was a very tedious compared to the way I usually paint. I am not sure how I feel about the painting, but I do know that my drawing table is now calling for a colored pencil of this image. I have a beautiful piece of 500 series, 100% cotton Strathmore paper calling me right now! I let you know how that turns out.
Check out Neil Gaiman’s 2012 Commencement speech on Making Art it’s very inspiring!
